If you need to know any drink that has probably ever been created, this is the book for you. When I am entertaining, I will flip to a random page and make a new drink. Some have been good, some have been bad, but it's nice to have a concise reference for all of them. The book is a also a nice and small size, so it can easily fit in bar cart or in a kitchen drawer.
We noticed this title on another site in a leather bound version with monogramming, and purchased this item to preview the content before committing to the leather bound monogrammed version for groomsman gifts. First, this version, which is hardcover but not leather, would make a handsome gift itself. It's a thick little book, and has a wide variety of recipes. That said, we don't tend to use it very frequently. I think of it like Joy of Cooking for the bar - it's very helpful to have as a resource and you feel confident knowing you could prepare anything, but you don't consult it every day. Compared to other comprehensive cocktail books we either own or have reviewed, it gets top marks for both content and presentation.
This is a great book. Every drink you could ever want is in here. Very well organized too. I can't wait to start using it!
An easy-to-use guide to mixology, but also includes the history of various spirits and offers a distinctly midcentury aesthetic. Like Alfred Hitchcok films? You just might like this book. Illustrations are lovely. Take note: most of these recipes and guidelines are understated and emphasize nuance over boldness, 20th century tradition over contemporary trends.
boyfriend loves it... and i loved the price
Excellent.
Great book and tons of great recipes. Every recipe I’ve tried so far has been delicious and fun to make.
It's a vast collection of drinks with a lot of great history and information that is well illustrated. That being said, the first page,143, that I opened to all 3 recipes had mistakes in them and 2 of these are some of my favorite drinks the Negroni & Sazerac. The Negroni uses an orange not lemon twist as the orange brightens the drink and the lemon is ore more acidic which makes the Campari seem more bitter. In the New Orleans or Ramos Fizz the orange flower water is added at the end just before the soda which makes it aromatic, it's lost when it's mixed in and most are served without ice. The Sazerac, the official drink of New Orleans, was originally made with Cognac and in some places there still is but the vast majority are made with rye whiskey never bourbon. I do think his line of glassware has some great designs that I have purchased which led me to buy the book.
