This is an excellent book. It's well-written and presented in an easy-to-understand way with a lot of humor added to make reading it enjoyable. I learned a lot about bond investing from reading it and, in fact, after reading it, I ordered Russell's ETF Investing For Dummies and his Index Fund Investing for Dummies. In short, I highly recommend the book for anyone needing good, basic information about bond investing.That said, there are a couple things that I found disappointing about the book but I want to emphasize that those things are minor and the fact that this part of my review is longer shouldn't lead someone to believe that I didn't like the book. I did! It simply means it takes a bit longer to explain those minor negatives.First, I was disappointed that Russell didn't go into more detail about investing in bonds during these historic low interest rate times. The rates were low when wrote the book and he acknowledges that. But although he insists that everyone should have bonds in their portfolio, he really doesn't address the issue of investing in bonds (or bond funds which he prefers for most people) when the interest rates really only have one way to go at this time and that's up. And when that happens, bond holders are going to take a hit. These are very unusual times that require different strategies but Russell really didn't deal with that to my satisfaction.Russell mentions a study done that makes a very convincing argument that even older and retired investors should only have about 15% in bonds. Russell was impressed with that study and yet he still advises that investors should have about 30 to 50% of their portfolio in bonds, depending on their age. My father passed away two years ago when he was nearly 102 years old and I inherited 1/4 of his portfolio. It turns out that he had only a very small investment in bonds and he did very well over the years. If I remember correctly (I have reallocated the portfolio) he only had about 7% or so in bonds. And he made it through the 2007/2008 drop in very good condition and prospered. He had been investing since before the Great Depression and he was a conservative investor even though he clearly didn't favor having a high percentage of his portfolio invested in bonds, which is consistent with the study Russell mentions. But he did have a high percentage of his investments in dividend stocks, including utilities, energy stocks, and a lot invested in a couple closed-end preferred funds, one of which has never missed a dividend payment since it's inception in 1929. Those investments apparently took the place of a heavy investment in bonds for my father and it worked fine for him over many decades.A couple more nit-picking things that I'm almost embarrassed to mention but I will. But don't let these remarks turn you away from this very good book: Unfortunately, Russell had to make a few snide remarks about gun owners and people who own pickup trucks, etc. It was done to be funny but it was unnecessary. It also appears that Russell is very liberal because he mentions that any politician who refuses to vote to raise taxes when our national debt skyrockets (as it has) is insane. He never even considers the possibility of cutting spending in his little rant. I got the impression that Russell is a tax & spend liberal and he mentions his buddy, Bill Clinton. (Clinton actually did a pretty good job with the economy, though.) But these things were a hint to me that Russell may not share the same ideas I have when it comes to handling money. He mentions that, when he was a kid, his big hardship was that his 15-foot boat only had a 25 h.p. motor that made it slow getting around from his Long Island home. The horrors! (In fairness, he mentions this with a sense of humor but, even so, it reveals that he must have had a very sheltered childhood. No big deal, though, but it is consistent with some other things he mentions that made me think that we don't share the same ideas, even when they apply to investing.)One more tiny thing. Russell mentions in the book that he is a fee-only financial planner. That's great! Fee-only planners are the only way to go, in my opinion, if you need a planner. Out of curiosity, I went to his website. What I found didn't impress me very much. It seemed a bit "rinky-dinky," in fact. Dig a little deeply into the site and you may see what I mean although you may not agree with my conclusion, of course. It paints a picture (by my interpretation) of a guy running a little business out of a small house (nothing wrong with that but it may indicate how successful he is as an investor - or it may just mean that he lives way within his means and I highly respect that if that's the case. But it does raise a question about how good of an investor he is.) I went to a dentist who had rotten teeth once and that gave me pause about whether he was the dentist for me and that's the way I felt after navigating Russell's website. It left me wondering if he is an "expert" who is better at teaching others than actually doing what he teaches. And although his fees are probably in line with those of other planners, I don't know why I would hire him when he recommends a plan that anyone could simply do for themselves. Basically, you would be consistent with Russell's ideas if you simply built a 3-fund portfolio such as those advocated by Bogleheads, etc., and re balance it periodically. So why pay someone $6,000 or more per year (Russell's fees) to re balance an index fund portfolio? But I admit that this really has nothing to do with the value of the book.Again, I feel embarrassed for bringing those negatives up and I want to stress that I liked the book enough that I ordered two more of Russell's "For Dummies" books. I recommend this book for anyone new to bond investing, like myself. It was very helpful.

I wanted to learn about investing in bonds and this book certainly helped me in that regard. After reading it, I decided it would be better for me to use low-cost bond funds or ETFs, but that may not be the case for others. Russell is an entertaining writer and makes things very clear. I especially appreciated the discussion of bond risks, since I had always thought of them as relatively risk free. But alas, no free lunches here either.

I really enjoyed this book it was a refreshing new way to look at ODC, I have to say it was a little steamy but I liked it and it was funny with Elizabeth trying to overcome the difficulties with being a man and having a mans response. Yes if I was in a mans body I sure would explore and I’m sure a man would do the same thing. I lol when Darcy as Elizabeth experienced a mensuration it was so well written.

Such a clever look at how people respond to the familiar/unfamiliar and how they worked through their hilarious mix up! A fresh idea and well presented. A bit of grammar error but nothing that distracts. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to more of her work.

A competently written story originally published on FanFiction website. It contained greatly truncated timeline as nearly all the events occurred in a short period immediately following the Netherfield Ball (sans the departure to London). As a consequence of the "swap” the general storyline deviated to some degree away from its traditional format; however, there were no moments of great drama incorporated into it - just a bit of scheming & the occasional episode of bad behaviour. The tale's various romances concluded in a number of marriages, none of which were mismatches nor unions of convenience.The author's obsession with bodily functions which she felt obliged to explicate in the text, including Elizabeth & Darcy's reactions to sundry physical situations & occurrences, detracted from its overall pleasant tone & almost persuaded me to abandon the book. There were a few editing errors (eg incorrect conjunctions, chronologically inappropriate words) which marred the storytelling. I am glad I read the Kindle Unlimited version & did not purchase a permanent copy. I would have preferred the rate this variation at 2.5-stars but have rounded up my score as, essentially, it wasn't an unappealing effort.

This is indeed a very fun variation, there are a few spelling and grammatical errors, but nothing too glaring. I would’ve loved to see more development of the other supporting characters, there is a lot going on that seems to be glossed over with a few sentences that I would’ve like to have had explored more in depth (Caroline’s plotting, Wickham’s deeds and fate, Mr. Collins plans). I also do not think it was necessary to quote Mr. Collins’ proposal word for word from Austen, there was definitely room for more creativity in this chapter. All in all, this was a very fun and enjoyable fanfiction that just needs a bit more polish.

I was not expecting much when acquired this book through KU, but the author managed to walk the fine line of keeping a story such as this as close to the realm of reality as possible. The story does have several amusing moments with about three seconds of angst thrown in for good measure. Read via KU.

I had read and enjoyed an earlier version of this story but this published version add a lot of details that allowed me to be dream into the story and made it believable despite the fantasy element. Rather than relying on angst and misunderstanding, this book does a nice job of showing E and D's growth as individuals and as a couple, learning to understand themselves, eachother, and those around them. I love how Darcy in particular leaned to care about Elizabeth's family and really become one of them.

All in all an excellent read. I do love the body swap trope, and this delivered remarkably well.Darcy dealing with being female was a riot, and Lizzy having to suddenly be the man in all exchanges and interactions is not to be missed.I could have wished for a few more foibles and mishaps, but the story was centered on this couple finding out what their true feelings are as well as the true character, circumstance, reality, and hardships of their counterpart. I definitely recommend.

Cute story of how Darcy and Elizabeth find themselves inhabiting each other's bodies one starry night. As they learn about each other and come to appreciate the outside forces each deals with they also team together to fix other situations. Unfortunately the use of modern expressions and typos detract from the creativity. Still, a way to pass a pleasant afternoon.

I like Pema Chodron but sometimes I feel like her books are overly repeating. The content is good but it feels like each paragraph I read is essentially repeating what has already been said. No 'meat' in this book--not a bad read but it did not satisfy.

This book’s title caught my eye at a time when I felt like things were falling apart for me. I’ve long been open to the teachings of Buddhism and so I thought I might find some insight, even comfort, in Ms Chodron’s words.And I did, but this is not a “hand-holding,” “feel good” book. It’s blunt in its view of life as, I suppose, Buddhism tends to be. The feel of the whole was, to me, “suck it up and soldier on.” But do so with the insights of Buddhism and an enlightened point-of-view. And so when facing one of those inevitable times when we are losing it all, we can find an understanding of what we’re feeling when Ms Chodron says:"We react against the possibility of loneliness, of death, of not having anything to hold on to. Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth."She illustrates this by describing a pivotal moment in her life when things fell apart. In her youth, her husband left her and she felt that loss of her whole world with anger and fear. But out of that experience she found Buddhism, a new life and a new vocation. She eventually became thankful for the experience, and that is a major theme of the book—the idea that life is all beginnings and endings. If we can understand that, and accept it, we can go a long way in coping with the bad times.Fear is what we’re trying to cope with in those bad times. As she stated in the above quote, we are afraid of loneliness, death, and aimlessness. She asks us to understand that at the start of the book, and then goes on to offer insight to help us deal with it. She states what her whole book is about when she says:"What we’re talking about is getting to know fear, becoming familiar with fear, looking it right in the eye—not as a way to solve problems, but as a complete undoing of old ways of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and thinking."I could go on and on with such quotes—there are so many quotable passages in this book. Also ideas that have helped me. Such as that things are just not what we think they are; we really don’t know anything and so we must be careful in our judgments, even judgments as to what is good and what is bad (see chapter 1). Because we never know how things will turn out.When in emotional pain, people tend to return to those places they’ve found comfort in the past. There are times, though, when those places fail us, or don’t offer enough comfort. If you’re at such a place, then this book might be of help. It is likely to be, if you can understand and accept the basic cause of our unhappiness according to Buddhism. Ms Chodron states it as:"Thinking that we can find some lasting pleasure and avoid pain is what in Buddhism is called samsara, a hopeless cycle that goes round and round endlessly and causes us to suffer greatly."From there, you can go on to find out what you can do in your life to address samsara. And if you can find, ironically, that chasing happiness does not bring happiness, and running from pain does not eliminate pain, then you’ll be at a point where this book can help.

All of us face really hard times if we are alive and love lots of people. I love this book and give it as gifts when I know people are going through tough times. Pema Chodron has the unique ability to write in a way that you feel like a loving friend is giving you really solid, helpful, kind advice that is accessible. Her wise counsel and perspective throughs you a life jacket when you think you are going to drown. I read this book the first time when I was going through my divorce and read parts of it again when I lost my daughter to cancer. It is a book you will be glad to have and glad to give.

This book encouraged me to make some very positive changes in my life. There were sections in the first few chapters that I underlined, but then I skimmed the last half.

Spot on the best book I've come across regarding shifting the mind around physical "inconveniences" or worse. I'm surprised that many around me have also read this but never shared it! I've been very vocal about how much this is helping me cope with life post cancer treatment!

I started experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks recently. My therapist recommended Pema and I am so happy I bought this book. Each chapter is about 6 pages so I try to start every day by reading one. It helps me to set an intentional frame of mind for the day. I don't consider myself Buddhist, but I love her teachings and find myself identifying so closely with what she is saying.

This book is incredible. I purchased it for a mindfulness course, and loved it so much i bought a copy for my sister in law. Very helpful for anyone suffering with perfectionism, anxiety, or trauma. it's definitely a book that goes well with meditative practices!

i have been reading and re-reading this book for years and years. it is my go-to book during any difficult time, and i always glean something knew regarding my current situation. pema chodron's writing takes away a lot of the loftiness i've encountered while trying to read bhuddist self help books, but since pema has already gone through so much of the craziness of life, her lessons areextremely comprehensive and compassionate. i love this book because you can open it to any page and start reading and you will find something you can use. love it. thank you pema! i recommend all her books. the places that scare you is awesome and a good one for impulsive activity, including jumping to conclusions, anger, etc, is called don't bite the hook. those are my 3 favorites. oh, i guess it would help to mention my reasons for seeking out this genre of information: i went through a terrible breakup, moved across the country with my dog, the dog bit someone ferociously on the neck, i lost my dog and the house i was living at the time (on the same day as losing the dog), was outcast from my group of friends because they saw my dog as an extension of me, went to live in a basement apartment, started drinking heavily, and fell into a depression that consisted of me waking up, taking an ambien, and going back to sleep. then when i woke up again, i would just take more ambien until i fell asleep again. i lost about 15 pounds on my already 120 pound frame, and contemplated "disappearing" whenever i was awake. it was a completely sucktastic time. i do indeed credit pema for helping me see that i had to kick my butt into gear and grab ahold of the reins.

About the Author

Frank Zöllner wrote his doctoral thesis on motifs originating from Antiquity in the history of art and architecture of the Medieval and Renaissance periods (1987). He is also the author of a postdoctoral treatise on motion and expression in the art of Leonardo da Vinci, published in 2010. He has published numerous works on Renaissance art and art theory, and on 20th-century art. Since 1996 he has been Professor of Medieval and Modern Art at the University of Leipzig. This is an amazing collection of da Vinci's Work. I purchased it for someone who had read Walter Isaacson's " LEONARDO DA VINCI"Needles to say, they were beyond thrilled.Some of the reviews said the dimensions of the book were small, but the book was very thick. This is true from a factual standpoint, but I don't agree with those who were critical. In my case, the end user who was born in the 1930's, had no complaints about the size of the illustrations, ability to discern detail, or comfort handling the book.

Da Vinci's masterful sketches between the covers of one book. Was expecting a larger book but, actually, the smaller size is better: for travel, perusing in bed, etc. A great companion book as I read Walter Isaacson's biography of Leonardo. The editors and publisher Taschen have produced a beautiful book.

The authors clearly explain the rights that creatives have and often overlook. Also important for instructors and writers who need to reference other imagery in their work. Every person who creates new meaning through creative work should own this resource.

Copyright has hit the headlines this year for the problems of digitisation. The book by Aufderheide and Jaszi addreses these problems, and more, in a concise and readable way, although it has to be said that it is a book by americans for the US market. In the UK, the equivalent concept is "fair dealing". The idea that one can copy parts of a copyright text or image without consulting the copyright holder is a very old one, because how else can one criticize or comment on a work without doing so? Indeed, by quoting a text in a review, say, it is giving publicity to a book and so maybe helping its sales, which must be good for the copyright owners, usually the author and the publisher. Digitisation has brought the concept into focus owing to the ease of copying and broadcasting that work to the whole world over the internet. That has not only raised the old problem of wholesale piracy but also how far fair use can go within the confines of the law. One particular problem arose from the large scale scanning of books by Google, which made them available on its website. For old books where the author is long dead (Dickens, Shakespeare etc), there is no problem, but since copyright is a long lasting right (70 years after the death of the author), there is a problem for more recent in-copyright works. This is why there is a major unresolved dispute between authors and Google. But yet the same company uses the doctrine of fair use in its search pages. For example, thumbnails of images are an essential part of the image search, to which no author objects at all. Without fair use, we would have no image search at all. But there is mounting evidence that copyright is being abused by major copyright holders, or indeed, some non-copyright holders. For example, many libraries hold extensive old photographs which are either not in copyright at all (being created before the copyright act established the right) or the copyright has expired. But since they may hold unique examples, they insist potential users to sign a license which means they can claim a fee for use of that image. Although that issue is not discussed in this book, it covers most of the controversial issues, some of which remain unresolved pending further legislation. It is essential reading for all those authors who worry about digitisation, as well as the public who want to know the fair limits of their rights in copying.

This is an excellent book, but I can't recommend the Kindle edition because it doesn't have page numbers. I don't know why publishers keep publishing versions of academic books that can't be cited. Either the format for revealing there are no page numbers has changed, or something is very strange about the way this book lists whether or not it doesn't have page numbers.
