Hard to read, I couldnt really understand much, and the sentences didnt make any sense, but it has a dragon.

This is probably a good translation, but it really needs a translation of the translation. The English used is so difficult that most people would have a hard time understanding what is going on. It is not a translation into modern everyday english. I tried to read it to my children, but I had to stop every paragraph and explain what was going on. I ended up buying another translation by Michael Morpurgo which is much better and more understandable.

This is a well read audiobook I recommend. This epic early Dark Ages poem is full of bona fide history mixed with the anonymous author's genius creativity.

This is an excellent version of the Anglo Saxon book. It maintains the rhythm and pace of the original text but makes it easy to follow and understand. It resembles The Hobbit in its language and descriptions. Children and adults alike will enjoy it.

More of a slog than a read. Just wanted to finish it because years ago I had given up half way through

It is my humble opinion, however, that dogs are intuitive, high intelligence creatures, who are as emotionally aware and capable of love as any human being is, and in fact are much more so than many people out there. First of all, I'm biased. My daughter is the owner/trainer of DeeDee featured on page 19.Though I'm not a pet-inclined person myself (I can't explain it), I do recognize that many people are - and that nearly all of them are better people for it. It's amazing how the bond between animals and people can be so strong, complex, fulfilling and symbiotic for both. Rebecca Ascher-Walsh (the author) and the editors at National Geographic are to be commended for the quality of work here. It's a privilege to read this labour of love.Next time you consider getting a pet, allow the animal to choose it's owner/companion wisely. They know better than you anyway.

How can anyone not love a dog? If you don't love dogs before you read this you will after you read it. I breed and show dogs and they are truly a gift from God. I think this book would motivate any one to get a purebred or a mixed breed. I cannot imagine life without a dog.

When life in general and politics in particular get me down, nothing does more to lift my spirits than a good dog story. I found this collection to totally fit the bill. Reading a couple of stories calms me and reminds me that there is nothing stronger or truer than a dog's love and devotion. Great read!

If you love dogs as I do, you will love this book for sure. The stories in it are so inspirational and will take your heart. Dogs are so special and we are lucky to have them in our lives. I can't imagine anyone mistreating one. They are so smart. You will love these true stories and it would be a great gift for any dog lover. Excellent book Ms. Ascher-Walsh.

Each of these three books is beautifully written by persons who have been priviledged to share the company of a range of breeds and crosses, of dogs. They shared the dignity, the love, the wonderful experiences they lived with these matchless animals. I have shared my life with several dogs, whom I met while young, and watched them grow to wonderful senior animals. Unexpectedly, I also had an opportunity to have an aging, and abandoned Golden Retriever in my life for eight short months before cancer took her life. They are much like quality wine, and have simply improved with age.

Full of loving stories between animal and humans. They are truly devoted and require us to be careful of their welfare. Nicely written, easy to read, and many different scenarios.
