a really great walk through fashions and art fro the past, I love the art from the 20's and this book is full of them , real covers from vogues past for you to color, plus a 3 page fold out of fashion models that can be removed and colored

At the time that I write this review, there two different Vogue coloring books that have just been released. The other one is based on British Vogue and this book is based on American Vogue magazine. They are quite different in time period, style, and print.There are 26 designs based on magazine covers from 1912 to 1932. Each one is associated with a letter of the alphabet. For example, the first one I chose to color (using Prismacolor Premier Soft Core pencils) is of a young woman pushing a wheelbarrow of flowers on a windy day. The magazine is from June 15, 1915, and the editors of this book associated the design with W for wheelbarrow. The design is on the front of the back and the letter and stylized illustration (plus W is for wheelbarrow) is on the back of the page.In addition to the 26 designs, there are coloring opportunities on the fold out flaps of the front and back cover. Better still is a lovely four page fold-out at the back of the book which is printed front and back with a design from each of the years between 1912 and 1932.All of the designs include some small details that may be a bit difficult to color. The artwork is appears to have been sketched but the lines are a tad squiggly and there are disconnects that make it more difficult to color. I also noted that the title and other print on the designs have been done with a weird wiggly typeface. I think that the point is to make the design appear vintage but, in many cases, it merely makes it look a little odd. This issue would not keep me from buying the book as I really love the designs otherwise but it certainly impacts my enjoyment of it. If I could place a rating of 4.5 on this book, I would do so; however, as I cannot, I always round up to the next highest star.I will provide more detail about the physical coloring book below but here is a quick overview of what I found:26 Full page American Vogue Fashion Designs (A to Z)Great extra coloring including 4 page fold-outPrinted on both sides of heavyweight non-perforated paperDesigns do not merge into the binding areaHybrid Glue and Sewn BindingAlcohol-based markers seep through this page slightlyWater-based markers, India ink pens, and gel pens do not seep through the pageColoring pencils work well with this paper but have blending issuesThe designs in this book are printed on both sides of the page. The paper used is really nice heavyweight, white, and non-perforated. The actual fashion designs are on one side of the page while the letter associated is on the back. For me, that equals a waste page if I want to use alcohol-based markers. If I use any other medium, I can also color that back page as well.The binding is both glued and sewn (with lots of little stitches that are impossible to snip.) The designs do not merge into the binding area. You will have to cut pages out if you want to remove them from the book but you won't lose any portion of the design in doing so. I would have loved to seen perforations on this coloring book for easy removal for framing, This is a fairly thick book but getting it to open flat was really easy.There are many extras such as the fashion elements on both the front and back page fold-outs as well as the four-page fold-out printed with 21 fashionable designs – one for each of the years represented by the covers. There is also a full color thumbnail of each of the cover designs with a short blurb about it should you wish to follow the original colors. I went my own way for my first project but I certainly had fun looking at the original, seeing the designer, and getting the history of the outfit.I test my coloring books with various medium (which I will list in the comments area for anyone interested in the list.) My tests are not exhaustive as I spend about half an hour per book with my tests. The tests do give me an idea of how the different medium react to the paper but not the experience of coloring a full design. Here are the results of my tests on this book:Alcohol-based markers do bleed through but only the tiniest bit. No other wet medium bleed through at all. That includes water-based markers, India ink pens, and gel pens. Gel pens definitely require more drying time than usual.Coloring pencils worked well for regular coverage and for layering. My issue arose with blending. My blends were very uneven – with a much darker stain in the middle and only slight color to the sides I was blending. This was true of both wax and oil based pencils. I would have liked to have attempted some blending, especially in the backgrounds but, at least at my skill level, I will have to abstain. My hard lead pencils worked well – but I don't attempt to blend those as that is not how I use them. I find that they are good for some detail areas where my soft lead pencil tips cannot fit.

I rounded up from 2.5 stars because this review is just my own expectations of a "coloring book" & how this compares. If I had to describe this book, it would be "coffee table book of black & white sketches of Vogue covers".The book itself is beautifully produced in terms of paper stock, printing, binding & some interesting historical detail on the original covers, but I feel it fails as a coloring book. The paper lacks any tooth, making it less suitable for the soft core colored pencils which I (& lots of amateur colorist) favor. That normally wouldn't be a problem for me, since I always remove coloring book pages & reprint them on sketch pad paper of my favored 'tooth'. However, these pages are not perforated. Altho there is sufficient space between the art & the binding to cut out the pages, this still left me feeling torn, because the book is so well produced that it seemed a shame to butcher it - and difficult as well because the stock is so stiff & heavy. In the end I did cut out the pages, but it left me feeling a bit of a barbarian.The drawings to be colored are more fashion sketches than drawings designed for amateur colorists. You'll need to be creative in 'solving' how to handle the very small prints in some of the fabrics. (The delicacy & suggestion of details in many of the pages seemed to me like the basis for water colors.) I hope I rise to the challenge. Good news, I can reprint & try as often as I want . . .

I received my Vogue Colors A-Z in the mail today and so far I am very pleased. The book is beautiful with much to color using reproductions of the covers presented for coloring or not. One thing about the reproductions. Their colors are not at all true to the originals. For example, I own a Vogue cover for June 1, 1916. The original colors are different and don't have the rather ugly brown border. One thing I should have asked about before my purchase is the quality of the paper used in the book. The coloring pages are thick, but are they archival?

Good for anyone who likes detail and fashion. beautiful sturdy cover, good pics...double sided, but I ll live with it....HEAVY PAPER , BIG PLUS.

What an impressive book! I don't know now why I hesitated so long to order this book, it's absolutely fabulous and goes FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS. The bright white paper that it's printed on is definitely more cardstock than paper.The entire book is put together in such a way that it truly draws you in and you want to know more about the history of each of the fashions and the artist who drew/painted each cover.In my estimation, this book, just as it is would make an adorable coffee table book. But.....it is a coloring book, and one of the very best that I have ever seen (I have seen and bought hundreds of Coloring books..,..there is nothing like it at all on the market).I will color it and pray that I don't make a huge disaster. LOL. Though the pictures are printed double sided, it is done in such a way that, if you were to use a medium and it bleed through, you wouldn't destroy an fashions, only information regarding the fashion.If they were to make more like this book, I would be the first in line. Don't be like me and hesitate about purchasing this book. I promise, you won't be disappointed. Buy it! I am so glad that I did!

I am 76 years old and I did the best job of coloring as a kid. I loved coloring contests in my neighborhood!It never occurred to me that I could color again in my spare time until recently!! I LOVE Vogue patterns!!When I saw this book, I had to have it! It gives me pleasure!

He has served as a consultant to many corporations and government agencies, including the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the U.S. Office of Telecommunications Policy and the RAND Corp., and he has testified as an expert witness in numerous electric, gas and telephone rate cases at both federal and state levels. Not that you're given much choice to the textbook you buy, but I figured I leave my two cents here anyway. First of all, amazon rentals are awesome as usual. It shipped fast and it also means I'm not stuck with this horror of a textbook after the semester ends. The text itself is as dry as you possibly can get. I'm an accounting student who has gladly read through managerial and financial accounting textbooks alike, but this is somehow even worse to digest.The author goes on tangents constantly, and seemed to have just discovered what a thesaurus was when he wrote it. There's a difference between writing at a college level and using obscure words to make a sentence lose meaning. I enjoy reading, and I can read for either business or pleasure just as well, but this text makes me dread every chapter assigned. It really needs to decide if it wants to be a math textbook or a "history of finance" one, because it does justice to neither aspects of the subject.But, as I said, what choice do you have? Get the book, or fail the class.

The book contains a lot of great information, however the samples that it provides never fully aligns to problems that students are asked to solve. For an intermediate finance student or professional, this would be a good resource, however it seems more advanced than it should for an introductory financial management book.

This book is organized in a way that offers information gradually. As you read you gain more information without becoming overwhelmed. For instance, callable bonds are defined and a simple example is offered in section 3 (if my memory serves me right), and then several chapters later, callable bonds are reintroduced with more information about how to invest in them. This book's arrival was perfect timing because I am currently investigating how my family and I will invest a recent lump sum.

I bought this book for college because I had to, not because I wanted to.

This book has a lot of information in it but not very good for beginners in finance. It's kind of hard to follow but it would be very good for people who are a little more fluent in this subject.

I thought this was coming with an access code for the online content, but it did not.

I bought this book new, expecting the key code in it as well. I got it and opened the packaged, then noticed that the plastic wrapping was open. I go to look for the key code and find that it was removed from the book itself. A new book comes with key codes to Mc Graw Hill if it is new. This has to be false advertisement.

I didn't buy this book. I'm not a mother yet, and my purchases in Christian literature tend toward help with anxiety, or uplifting messages about "hanging in there". And I'm trying to. I really don't have everything figured out yet, and I know I cause my mom a lot of worry. Not because she isn't respectful of my ability to make my own decisions, but just because she loves me. My health hasn't been the best lately, and my husband and I are going through an ugly split with his ex-best friend and business partner.So when I saw this book sitting on her kitchen table, and picked it up to look through it, I nearly started crying. Things have been hard lately, and I really *don't* have everything figured out yet. But it was so touching to be reminded that no matter how many years I've been gone from my mom's house, she's still looking out for me. She's still praying for me, she will always love me, and she is concerned. I haven't always given her the easiest time. Nor have I always been grateful for the love she's poured out, or the faith she's placed in God on my behalf, but I'd like to think I'm getting better.And I do know that no matter how much I struggle, I'll always come around, and I'll always come back.So to all you mothers out there, praying for your kids, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your concern. And thank you for believing in us, and believing in God.

For me Gel pens can by good or bad and these are very good quality. They write beautifully and I am very happy with them.

If you have ever wondered about flax, a product of nature that is processed to create linen fabric, this 240 page book is for you! A book more comprehensive in its overview of the subject would not be possible! With beautiful color photos and detailed illustrations, song lyrics and music scores, and examples of related paintings, the book is cheerful as well as informative. This is one of the nicest books in my collection. I highly recommend it to any student of textiles and to those who are interested in learning how flax is transformed into such a wonderful even-weave fabric used to make clothing and Samplers.

Not knowing much about flax and with a project to establish a flax bed at a local museum I needed a comprehensive source of information. The Big Book of Flax is that in spades.

There's a lot of good information here, but some of the graphics are repetitive and wince-worthy. There aren't a ton of contemporary books on flax-working available, so the Zinzendorfs are to be commended for taking it on as a topic. For those of us who spin flax, their YouTube videos are almost surely familiar. The book expands on the content of those videos, and is a nice reference for many things "flax." If you've gone down the fiber rabbit hole far enough that you are thinking about growing, processing, or spinning your own flax, you may as well have this book on your shelf.
